Frequently Asked Questions

What happens after I choose my charger?

After choosing your charger the next stage is to get it installed. This will involve completing an online survey which include details of your particulars from your home and some photos relevant to the charger installation. This will then go out to our charger installers who will provide details of the quoted cost and timing for them to install the charger. You should normally receive 3 quotes within 2 weeks from survey submission and you can then select the installer of your choice. Should you wish to have a on site survey this can be arranged but will normally come at an additional cost.

What does the warranty include?

The warranty covers any performance issues with the charger.

What is smart charging?

EV smart charging gives the user the ability to control their charging unit through their phone. Features can include scheduling, setting a time for when you want your vehicle to be ready or boosting your charge. All your charging statistics are also included. From 30th June 2022, all EV home chargers sold in England, Scotland, and Wales must have smart functionality, in accordance with The Electric Vehicle (Smart Charge Points) Regulations 2021.

Do I need Wi-Fi for my charger to work?

As most of our EV chargers are smart enabled, you’ll need to ensure you can connect the unit to your Wi-Fi network. This will form part of the installation and the installer will test this to ensure the signal is strong enough. Normally you would use your mobile to complete the setup process through your mobile.

Should I choose a Universal or a Tethered charger?

It depends on your preference: • Convenience - Tethered chargers have a cable permanently attached and provide ready for use charging as soon as you park. • Untethered chargers don’t have a cable permanently attached but rely on a cable being plugged in for each charge. • Most cars now use Type 2 chargers but this will be checked as part of the installation • Cable length - A tethered charger’s cable will be either 4.8m (Type 1) or 7.5m (Type 2) in length, whereas a universal charging cable can be up to 10m for either connector type.

Do I need earth rods fitted?

No the chargers come with an installed Protective Earth and Neutral feature which aligns to the UK Government Charger safety requirement.

What happens if my installation is non-standard?

Non-standard charger installations may incur an additional cost. Once your survey detail are provided the installer will be in touch to better understand your requirements and produce a no-obligation quote for any additional works.
